Social Studies

Picture
Kindergarten social studies integrates with art, literature, singing, and drama. Social studies skills develop naturally through play, dramatizations, role playing, and through the study of themes.

The social studies curriculum is oriented toward the family and the neighborhood, social relationships, and early civic responsibilities like following the Pal-Mac Way, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, learning about the Presidents and voting, American holidays and the historical significance of the days, and taking care of our school and village.  The social studies curriculum is also intended to give children the basis for interacting with and understanding people of other cultures, as well as the foundation for later studies in history and geography.

We "visit" other countries during the year through different holidays (Thanksgiving, Chinese New Year, St. Patrick's Day, and Cinco de Mayo). We study maps and the globe and learn a bit about each of the countries associated with these celebrations.
